Fermi's Paradox
The evolution of intelligent life on Earth is an exponential graph, one that spikes towards recent history. This shape, though, means that small delays in earlier phases would move the time of the intelligence spike forwards or backward significantly. For example, if Chicxulub did not destroy the dinosaurs, the evolution of human-level intelligence may have been delayed by a billion years.
