dif'rnt arts?

my prof before mentioned something about different arts, like a french style that's more messy, more just a sort of jazzy meschk of schtuf... v. a german style that was more rational and mathematical, with more discreet objects.

just compare the food. french foods have like a jillion ingredients and everything is subtle while as german's have like hamburgers and fries.

anyways, I'm wondering what exactly is the artistic spirit, and which one am I, the mathy kind, or am I better as the naturalist continuous sax player.
